The Southgate House Revival
About This Spot
Stepping into The Southgate House Revival is like entering a vibrant gathering where history, music, and community pulse together in an inviting embrace. Nestled in a beautifully restored historic building in Newport, this live music venue and bar carries a sense of timelessness, yet hums with fresh energy. The air is thick with anticipation and camaraderie, a place where locals and visitors converge for the joy of sound and shared moments.
The venue’s two distinct rooms offer unique vibes that complement each other: one lively with the buzz of a classic bar scene, the other a more intimate setting where acoustic melodies and stained glass windows create a quietly powerful ambiance. Here, every show feels personal. The sanctuary’s incredible acoustics invite you to listen deeply, while warm lighting and the historic surroundings ground you in a story beyond the music itself.
The bar pours generously, crafting drinks that encourage lingering conversations and slow smiling. Though no food is served on site, this adds to the sense that the focus here is truly on music and meaningful human connection. Staff members are known to be attentive and friendly, the kind who notice when you need a hand or a friendly word, making each visit feel less like a night out and more like a gathering amongst friends.
Whether you arrive for an intimate show, a lively concert, or a special event, The Southgate House Revival offers a textured experience where every detail—from the historic architecture to the vibrant crowd—feels thoughtfully woven into a local celebration of sound and spirit.

Awesome. Two different rooms and bars for shows. They pour strong drinks, just remember to tip well. The only negative is that they don't have food....to soak up the alcohol!

Cool venue! We saw the Bridge City Sinners in late October. One thing, it was very hot inside. Unfortunately I had a medical emergency, but the staff were amazing in assisting us. Great people!

I've been going here literally since the venue opened. I'd like to point out over the years I've never had a bad experience here. I really like to highlight an employee I met last night named Adam who really helped me out in a bind. Thank you very much!!

Best venue to see a concert. Great, friendly staff, beautiful, historic setting, incredible acoustics and ambiance. The sanctuary has a great stage surrounded by beautiful stained glass windows. I saw the fantastic guitarist Davy Knowles perform there last night for the 4th time in that venue. Killer show!

Great intimate venue and the sound is great. Not a bad view in the house. Lots of dining spots around it. Parking is quick and easy on the street. LOTS of music opportunities.

Date of visit: 06/12/2024 Show: Kat Hasty & Maggie Antone Lone Stars & Lovers tour Easily visible (look for the church steeple). Metered parking on surrounding streets available, so load up with your quarters. It was (I think) $1.75 per hour, limit 10 hours (plenty of time for a ) Doors opened at 7, we got into the venue easily at 7:30. This venue is AWESOME! Now it appears there might be a couple of different areas for performers. We were in the area immediately to the left when you enter. Ambience is cool, sound quality and acoustics wonderful. Check out the stained glass windows still in place. They have a bar selling drinks and chips. For this show there were tables and chairs, and of course standing room near the stage. Both of these ladies put on an awesome show. It felt cozy, like a bunch of friends hanging out playing and listening to music. The audience was great, respectful of the musicians. After the concert we got to hang around and wait for both ladies to come out for photos and autographs; as in some other venues they rush you out, it was not the case here. @magooggie @kathastymusic @sghrevival Upon leaving there is an area right outside the doors with some picnic tables, and more musicians!! Unfortunately, and I regret now, we did not stay to listen to them as the hour was late. Overall a great place to catch a concert. If I lived closer I would probably attend quite a few shows here. Nothing but thumbs-up for this venue! If you deem my review helpful please give it a .

My husband and I often attend concerts all over the tri-state area. We live in Ohio. We frequent WV, KY Indy, and MI frequently as well. We enjoy a wide variety of genres and styles. A show can be an experience like no other. We are constantly chasing that sound, that feeling that resonates in your body. Tuesday was our first time at Southgate House Revival House. I had researched Southgate beforehand quite a bit. We've tried to visit several times before but our schedules never worked out. We've been lucky enough to hear some of the artists that frequent Southgate in our own homes and at incredible venues around the state. I now want to hear every person I've ever seen, in concert, at Southgate House! The acoustics, and the space = perfection. Lighting = lovely ambiance. Beautiful, full, filling sound. Daniel Mason, singer, told us beforehand, "Just wait, it sounds incredible in there. This is the best I've ever heard Rachel." Daniel has toured the world extensively over the years with various artists. I knew I was in for a treat! However, Southgate superseded my expectations. Amazingly easy parking on site! Great outdoor area in the heart of everything that's Newport. Gorgeous architecture. Inside and out. So many unique details to study, if you have the chance. There are quite a few steps up to the upstairs stage. It's worth it once at the top. The mural above is a beautiful sight. It almost seems hidden in plain view. Such a cool space. Comfortable. I really enjoyed how the tables were set up to seat 2 or 4. The staff was amazingly friendly. I appreciated every pleasant encounter. The bathroom! Wow. I knew to expect some coolness in the bathroom. I always enjoy peeping at the stickers and art at venues. Southgate's upstairs and downstairs bathrooms were awesome. In addition, they smelt wonderful and were incredibly clean. I am so impressed by this. As well as everything beginning and ending promptly. That cannot always be timed out. That is teamwork and communication at its best. We were off work at 5 on Tuesday. At the venue by 7:30 and out by 10:15. It is possible to have fun on a random weekday. As parents with full-time jobs, we appreciate these midweek adventures. You can tell everyone takes great pride in their work and wants you to have the best experience. We already have plans to be back this fall. Thank you for an incredible Tuesday evening show.
